Google Takeout Metadata Fixer for Photos and Videos
Takeout Rescue combines every Google Photos Takeout ZIP, matches JSON sidecars, restores portable dates, GPS, descriptions and album relationships, and verifies a separate local output on Windows or macOS without uploading the photo library.
Fix Google Photos Takeout metadata across every ZIP
Large Takeout exports arrive as numbered ZIP archives. Media, supplemental JSON and album copies can be spread across different parts, so processing one archive at a time creates missed matches and repeated output. Takeout Rescue indexes every selected part as one library before repair begins.
The original ZIP files stay read-only. Repaired media is written to a separate directory that you choose, existing destination files are not overwritten, and exact duplicates are identified by content rather than a filename guess.
Restore dates, GPS and descriptions with evidence
Google Photos may keep user-edited dates, locations and descriptions in supplemental JSON beside the original media. Takeout Rescue matches those sidecars across ZIP boundaries and writes supported photo and video metadata into portable fields.
A successful write is read back through ExifTool before it is reported as verified. Ambiguous matches, unsupported fields and isolated failures remain visible in JSON and CSV reports instead of being silently counted as repaired.
Preserve albums, Live Photos and Motion Photos
Album folders often repeat the same physical media. Exact hashes allow one exported file to retain several album relationships without silently multiplying the library. Apple still-image and video resources stay together when their identifiers or other evidence support a reliable pair.
Existing Google Motion Photos remain intact, and supported Pixel motion resources can be handled without modifying the source archive. Missing Apple MakerNote identifiers are not invented because an attractive but incorrect pair is worse than a clearly reported limit.
Download current desktop builds
The current release supports 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 plus a universal macOS build for Intel and Apple silicon. The macOS archive is Developer ID signed, notarized by Apple and stapled. Published download responses include a SHA-256 checksum for independent verification.
You can repair up to 10 primary files in one free export per device before purchase. A Single Rescue license is $9 for one complete export; permanent access is $24 for unlimited personal jobs on up to two computers. There is no subscription or archive-size charge.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. ZIP archives, media, JSON metadata, coordinates and repair reports are processed on your computer. Network access is used for license status, downloads and update checks.
What does a Google Takeout metadata fixer change?
It matches Google supplemental JSON to the correct photos and videos, then writes supported dates, timezone offsets, GPS coordinates and descriptions into portable metadata fields. Takeout Rescue also preserves album relationships and reports ambiguous or unsupported cases instead of guessing.
Do I need to extract every Google Takeout ZIP first?
No. Select all numbered ZIP parts together. Takeout Rescue indexes them as one job while leaving the original archives untouched.
Can I test a real repair before buying?
Yes. The desktop app includes one free export of up to 10 primary files per device so you can inspect actual output and reports before purchasing a license.
Which platforms are supported?
Published builds support 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 plus a notarized universal macOS app for Intel and Apple silicon Macs.
