Why the product exists
Google Takeout returns original media alongside information managed separately by Google Photos. Large exports split that evidence across archives, repeat media in albums and expose naming edge cases that are easy to mishandle with a one-line metadata command.
Takeout Rescue was built to treat the export as a library reconstruction problem rather than a bulk timestamp edit.
Principles used in the repair engine
Sources remain read-only, output is separate, exact duplicates require content hashes, ambiguous matches remain unresolved and supported metadata writes are read back before success is reported.
The product does not promise perfect recovery when an export is incomplete. Clear failure categories and portable reports are part of the output, not an afterthought.
Published software, not roadmap claims
The public site describes desktop builds that users can download now. Work in progress is kept in the changelog as verification in progress and is not presented as a released capability.
The macOS release follows platform signing and notarization requirements. The current Windows 0.3.10 ZIP is explicitly identified as unsigned, and both public artifacts expose checksums for independent verification.
